I&C Energo Participates in the District Heating Decarbonisation Project in Plzeň
I&C Energo is participating in the implementation of a major energy project in Plzeň aimed at replacing coal with low-emission energy sources. The project represents a significant step in the modernisation of the district heating infrastructure and the decarbonisation of the Czech energy sector.
The contract for the construction of a new combined cycle generating unit has been awarded to a consortium consisting of Slovenské energetické strojárne, Metrostav CZ and I&C Energo. The total value of the project is approximately CZK 3.4 billion.
The new generating unit will replace the existing coal-fired technology and will be based on a gas turbine and associated process systems. The project will ensure a reliable supply of heat and electricity while significantly reducing emissions and improving air quality in the region. It also creates the conditions for the future use of alternative low-emission fuels.
I&C Energo’s Key Role
As part of the project, I&C Energo is responsible for delivering comprehensive solutions covering electrical systems, Instrumentation and Control (I&C), building services systems and related process technologies.
This scope of supply reflects I&C Energo’s extensive experience in delivering comparable energy projects, both completed and currently under implementation.
Decarbonisation as a Common Goal
The Plzeň project forms part of the broader transformation of the energy sector towards cleaner energy sources. The transition from coal to natural gas will contribute to reducing CO2 emissions, improving generation efficiency and enhancing the stability of the region’s energy system.
Through this project, I&C Energo is contributing to key investments that support the transformation of the energy sector and the transition towards sustainable and modern energy generation.
At present, I&C Energo, as a member of a consortium, is completing the Energy-from-Waste (EfW) facility project in Komořany and is also at the peak of installation works on a combined cycle generating unit. At the Opatovice Power Plant, the company is involved in the implementation of three combined cycle generating units, where it has already completed the Basic Design phase and is currently carrying out the Detailed Design phase. I&C Energo is also preparing further decarbonisation projects, applying the knowledge and experience gained from previous and ongoing projects.
