Ensuring the Long-Term Operation of the Control System of the Existing Units at the Dukovany NPP

The consortium of Czech companies ZAT and I&C Energo has won the tender for the replacement of key elements of the control system of all four units. The ten-year project is part of a comprehensive modernization programme aimed at ensuring the efficient and safe long-term operation of the Czech Republic’s first nuclear power plant.

The project, scheduled to run over ten years, includes the replacement of the existing unit control systems of the primary and secondary circuits at all four units, which are planned to remain in operation at least until 2045. The Czech control system SandRA will gradually replace the previous third generation of ZAT systems installed at the plant between 2007 and 2016, which currently control more than 70 percent of the Dukovany plant’s operation.

Within the project, I&C Energo will be responsible for activities related to the installation of ZAT control systems and their commissioning, including testing. The company will also participate in engineering activities related to the primary circuit and in the higher-level unit diagnostic and information system.

The project itself, which has a direct impact on the operational reliability and safe operation of the nuclear power plant, includes tens of thousands of activities, hardware modifications, and extensive testing.
